Quartz is an engineered stone made of 90-94% crushed natural quartz and 6-10% polymer resins and pigments. Its popularity for countertops comes from exceptional resistance to stains, scratches and impacts, easy maintenance (no sealant needed), a wide range of uniform colors and patterns, and durability superior to many natural stones.

Quartz countertop cost varies by brand (Silestone, Caesarstone, Vicostone, etc.), color, thickness (20mm or 30mm), edge finish, project complexity and region. Generally expect $50-$150 per installed square foot. For an accurate quote on your project, request a free quote.

Quartz countertop maintenance is very simple: clean daily with a soft damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive products, pure bleach and harsh solvents. No sealant required. For stubborn stains, use a quartz-specific cleaner. Avoid placing very hot objects (>150°C) directly on the surface.

Quartz is heat-resistant up to about 150°C (300°F). Beyond that, polymer resins may yellow or crack. Always use a trivet or rack for hot pots from the oven. Dekton or granite are better if you need superior thermal resistance.

Consider your kitchen's natural and artificial lighting, cabinet and floor colour, and the visual effect you want (calm and minimalist vs. dramatic and veined). Minor damage (small scratches, surface stains) can often be polished or cleaned. Larger cracks, chips or burns require professional intervention. The two standard thicknesses are 20mm (¾") and 30mm (1¼"). 30mm offers a more massive, imposing look, ideal for islands and large surfaces. 20mm is more economical and suits more discreet installations or bathroom vanities. 30mm is also more impact-resistant at the edges.
